The decision to dismantle USAID and freeze foreign funding threatens the rule of law and human rights worldwide. USAID, founded in 1961, has supported over 100 countries in areas such as health, education, and access to clean water. As of February 2025, DOGE, or President Trump and his X bestie Elon Musk, have significantly hacked away at USAID by placing 4,200 employees on leave and firing more than 1,600. Although some programs may resume, the majority will not. And considering two-thirds of children’s deaths worldwide take place in over 25 affected countries, the DOGE’s freeze on USAID is not just inhumane, it’s murder in my opinion.
Children Will Die Without These Clinics
One of the programs cut is PEPFAR, which is the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, and South Africa is the largest beneficiary. The DOGE’s freeze on USAID also affects the many clinics that help keep pregnant mothers from passing the AIDS virus to their unborn children. That means these babies are receiving a death sentence before they are ever born!
Tuberculosis Numbers Will Rise Again
Another huge concern is the freeze on TB programs, which averted 3.8 million deaths from TB last year alone. Tuberculosis is one of the world’s deadliest infectious diseases, and one we continue to battle. Every hour, an estimated 103 people are dying as a result of these cuts. There is a live Impact Counter with updated death numbers for every illness or condition affected by DOGE’s death sentence, including malaria and malnutrition. This funding was frozen because DOGE and the Trump Administration claim that USAID is a waste of government money. These bastards worry more about saving a dollar than saving a life! I think that is the real tragedy here.
Something needs to be done to stop the damage and deaths resulting from the USAID cuts. DOGE’s funding cuts didn’t just pull the plug on these programs; they are pulling the plug on the lives of the people who needed it the most.
