Hey Texas, have you checked on the progress of the insane border wall you have been paying for? Don’t bother. This waste of taxpayers’ money has already been forgotten. All in all, it was just another prick with a wall.
It appears Texas has quietly stopped funding its plans to build its border wall with Mexico. So quietly, in fact, that it is almost an admission of how bad this decision was from the start. Each mile of wall costs taxpayers between $17 million and $41 million a mile, according to state engineers. Four years after Gov. Greg Abbott announced that Texas would be the first state to have a wall, they simply stopped.
Just 8% of the 805-mile wall was completed, and that already cost you $3.5 billion. And what we have to show for it is dozens of fragmented wall portions scattered across six counties. The Texas Tribune reported last year that the wall is full of gaps that migrants and smugglers can easily walk around. Some of these sections are 70 miles apart! How does 65 miles of fence cost $3.5 billion anyway? I doubt we will get an answer to that since Texas Republicans are trying to distance themselves from this FUBAR.

A spokesperson for Gov. Abbott told the Tribune that the Trump administration’s aggressive efforts to curb immigration has allowed the state to adjust its enforcement plans. So he is saying we no longer need it because Trump’s ICE heads are doing such a great job! Well, that certainly depends on who you ask.

Approximately $2.5 billion in previously allocated funds remain for the project, and would complete 85 additional miles of unnecessary wall. However, that’s all out the window. So, what happens to the leftover funds? Well, the funding will primarily go to the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas National Guard, the agencies responsible for Operation Lone Star.
This is another waste of resources, according to many, nearly $11 billion since its beginning. The Immigrant Legal Resource Center says, “Operation Lone Star has funneled billions away from vital resources for Texans to fuel Trump’s deportations scheme.
Wake up, people! We are losing sight of the important issues here while we criminalize immigration. The border we should be worrying about is the borderline personality of our president and how much of our country he will destroy while he is still in office.
